The original Planet Microbe web portal made environmental contextual data programmatically searchable using terminology from open source life-science ontologies, however, it hadn't yet delved into doing quantitative analyses of the taxonomic structure and functional potential of the marine microbiome. To fill this gap, we created the novel Planet Microbe Semantic Web Analysis suite. A FAIR RDF-based API architecture leveraging ontologies to drive the analysis of large-scale marine metagenomic datasets.
